SYAA relies on volunteers for everything we do. Let us know if you’re interested in helping out in anyway, and we’ll find a fit for you!

 

Volunteer Opportunities

  • General field maintenance such as cutting grass, lining the fields, and installing goal nets and other equipment.

  • Property and equipment maintenance including building upkeep, cleaning, and minor repairs on all equipment.

  • Concession Stand duty assists in the management or staffing of our concession stand and food production on Saturdays.

  • Team managers assist our couches by taking care of team organization & communications.

  • Equipment managers maintain the inventory of shirts, shorts, socks, balls, and nets etc for our teams.

  • Online Administration helps with email communication, tracks volunteer assistance, and maintains our website, facebook, twitter pages.

  • Support Referee training - any certified referees can help with our own in-house youth referee training program.

  • Sponsorship outreach helps us promote SYAA to potential sponsors and new advertisers.

  • SYAA Board of Directors (all sports) and Soccer Committee - let us know if you are interested in helping us run our organization.

Coaching

Coaches & Assistant Coaches are needed at all levels - recreational, advanced, and select travel.  SYAA will provide training through nationally recognized programs if requested.

Recreational Soccer Coaches:

  • Manage teams at age levels U4 to U16.

  • Run one practice per week and one game on Saturdays (All games and practices are held at SYAA’s fields)

  • Teach basic skills as outlined by the Director of Coaching.  Training is available where requested.

  • Communicate to team parents with help from your Asst. Coach and Team Manager.

  • Display good sportsmanship and promote SYAA’s philosophy of everyone plays and has fun.

Advanced Rec Division Soccer Coaches

In addition to the Recreational expectations above:

  • Run practices 1 or 2 times a week and one game on Saturdays.

  • Participate in Tidewater Advanced Soccer League with travel to Hampton Roads and northern North Carolina for away matches on Saturdays.

  • Take part in new player evaluations

Travel Coaches

In addition to the requirements above:

  • Set and run a weekly training schedule as suiting the team ambitions.

  • Continue training and skill building in the off season.

  • Coaching certifications expected and courses are paid for where needed.

  • Equal playing time for players not required, but encouraged when possible.
